With the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics drawing nearer, the organizing committee of the sports extravaganza on Monday held a special event in the resort city in Gwangwon Province.
About 500 participants, including athletes and sports officials such as Cho Yang-ho, the organizing committee chairman and Choi Moon-soon, Gangwon Province governor, braved freezing temperatures and strong winds to boost morale and wish for a successful hosting of the event. They were joined by Kim Yu-na who is a promotional ambassador for the Olympics.
A torch relay was held to strengthen unity among athletes and some 60 torchbearers ran a 3-km relay. Mock rehearsals for the opening ceremony and other activities were conducted to add Olympic atmosphere.
"We will do our best to prepare for the Olympics," Cho said. "I also hope that all Koreans will give their full support," he added.
