Four out of 10 Korean men are forecast to be obese in 2020 while they will also likely suffer higher rates of suicide and hypertension.
The Korea Health Promotion Institute on Monday released its tracking of public health trends.
The government has set a goal to reduce the obesity rate among men to less than 37 percent by 2020, but now the institute forecasts the rate at 39.7 percent, while the obesity rate among women, originally targeted at below 27 percent, is also projected to be slightly higher.
The hypertension rate is projected to rise to 27.6 percent by 2020 and the suicide rate to reach 27.8 per 100,000 people, compared to the government's target of 20.
