Prosecutors are investigating after superstar Bae Yong-joon was accused of fraud by a local health food supplement maker. According to prosecutors, the company, Koje, signed a contract in 2009 to sell red ginseng in Japan on behalf of Bae's hospitality firm Gorilla Life Way but the agreement broke down in 2010.
Koje claims it paid Bae's company W2.5 billion (US$1=W1,041) for the sales rights but the money was not used to conduct market research as required by the contract. The company said it suffered around W11.6 billion in losses after exporting red ginseng and paying for storage and tariffs.
Bae Yong Joon was born on August 29, 1972, and is a South Korean actor best known for his roles in numerous television dramas and one of the first kkonminam icons. He is known as Yon-sama to his Japanese fans.
