U.S. tech giant Apple took the No. 1 spot in the Asian smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2014. Apple's market share in Asia was 16 percent, three percent more than Samsung's, according to tech market research firm Counterpoint.
Korea, Japan and China led demand for Apple's flagship iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models. Third and fourth place went to China's Xiaomi and Huawei. Apple also took the lead in North America. But emerging markets like South America, the Middle East, and Africa showed a stronger preference for Samsung thanks to lower prices.
