Approximately 8,000 South Korean Teenagers Are Treated For Alcohol Abuse

Some 7,800 teenagers were treated for abusing alcohol from 2012 to 2016, data from the Ministry of Health and Welfare show. The number of teens treated for alcoholism rose from 1,415 in 2012 to 1,767 in 2016, with a total of 7,800 teenagers treated during the period, People’s Party lawmaker Kim Kwang-soo said on Monday, citing the data.
The number of teenage girls who sought treatment increased by 29 percent from 590 in 2012 to 761 in 2016, versus 22 percent for boys. The average age at which the teens consumed alcohol for the first time was 13.2 years.
