Big Bang's G-Dragon ineligible for military promotion due to numerous leave of absences

G-Dragon, the leader of K-pop boy band Big Bang who is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, failed to receive a customary promotion to the rank of corporal, it was revealed on Tuesday.
He began serving his military duty in February last year. According to the Army, if a recruit serves as a private for about 10 months, he is usually promoted to the rank of corporal.
Entertainment website Dispatch speculated that the delayed promotion seemed to be related to his excessive leave of absence. "G-Dragon spent about 40 days at a hospital due to an ankle injury and took leave for about 76 days in total," it said.
"G-Dragon's extended hospital stay caused him to miss some components of army training such as marksmanship, making him ineligible for a routine promotion," a military officer said.
