Bloomberg released its annual global market value rankings and only three Korean companies made the top 500. Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor and SK Hynix remained on the list, while Hyundai Mobis, POSCO, and KEPCO were taken off. Samsung dropped six spots to 28th, even though its total market value edged up to US$196 billion.
Analysts explained that Korea's export-oriented companies are struggling to minimize the impact of the weak Japanese yen. Meanwhile, American businesses dominated the list, Chinese firms gained ground, doubling from 22 to 46, and Apple retained the top spot with a market value of $735 billion.
