The Korean Embassy in Beijing has launched a protest against a Chinese online shopping mall for unlawfully using the image of President Park Geun-hye. A Chinese cosmetic maker IMAX used Park’s image in an advertisement for eye cream on China’s largest online shopping site. The product claimed its eye cream is effective for treating wrinkles and President Park uses the product herself.
The Korean Embassy said, “the product is neither manufactured nor exported by Korea” and demanded that the photo be removed. The Embassy also remarked, “Park does not sue the product”.
A diplomatic source in Beijing said, "Chinese think President Park Geun-hye looks younger than her age (62)." Furthermore, Park’s autobiography is sold well in China also adding to her popularity. It is not uncommon for photos to be misused in China, however it is rare to see a foreign leader’s image be used this way.
