Chinese tourists last year spent 60.6 percent of all the money foreigners forked out on their credit cards in Korea.
The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute analysed credit card spending last year by 17.24 million foreign visitors and 1.16 million resident expats.
Foreigners spent W13.74 trillion using plastic here, up more than double from W6.34 trillion in 2012 (US$1=W1,139).
Chinese spent the most with W8.32 trillion, up a whopping 46.2 percent from 2015. That was even higher than the growth in the number of Chinese visitors over the same period, which stood at 34.8 percent. Japanese ranked second with W1.90 trillion, followed by Americans (W1.29 trillion), Hong Kong citizens (317 billion) and Taiwanese (261 billion).
