Choo Shin-soo of the Texas Rangers tied Ichiro Suzuki's longest on-base streak for an Asian player at 43 games. In a home game against the Houston Astros on Tuesday, Choo started as a designated hitter in the leadoff position, with two hits, one RBI, one run, and two walks in five at-bat appearances. Choo reached first base four times on Wednesday, tying Suzuki's record set in 2009.
Choo is also close to the Rangers' record of 46 games set by Julio Franco in 1993. The MLB record for the longest on-base streak is 84 games set in 1949 by Ted Williams. The Rangers lost Tuesday's game 5-3, and remain at the bottom of their division in the American League.
