The daughter of ex-President Park Geun-hye's alleged accomplice Choi Soon-sil will seek political asylum in Denmark if the courts decide to extradite her to Korea, her lawyer told Reuters on Tuesday. "If all court instances say she should be extradited then it's political asylum," Peter Blinkenberg said. He said he will argue that Chung Yoo-ra faces political persecution if she returns to her home country.
Chung is being held in a remand prison in the northern Danish town of Aalborg, where she fled from Germany when the corruption scandal surrounding her mother broke.
Chung is accused of being a chief beneficiary of Park's and Choi's extortion racket and of wrangling underhand admission to the prestigious Ewha Womans University.
She was arrested in Aalborg on Jan. 1.
