CL of K-pop girl group 2NE1 featured in the Guardian on Monday in the Playlist section, where a team of music specialists recommend music from all corners of the world. CL's song "Doctor Pepper," the product of collaboration with American rappers Riff Raff, Diplo and OG Maco, hit more than 1 million streaming downloads in just three days after it was released on Sound Cloud on May 22.
It has garnered a lot of interest from pop aficionados and was featured in hip hop magazine XXL and on music streaming site Stereogum. "Managed by Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande), CL is the biggest star in Korea -- her pop group 2NE1 are bigger out there than One Direction. And now she is going solo, with an album due out later this year," the Guardian said. The Guardian wrote positively about CL's contribution, describing her sound as "Atlanta trap heavy on spaciousness and sci-fi sonics." CL, who is awaiting her U.S. debut, will appear at the Mad Decent Block Party in the U.S. in August and September.
