A Danish court decided Wednesday to extend by a month the detention of the daughter of President Park Geun-hye's crony Choi Soon-sil.
Chung Yoo-rawill remain in jail in the Danish town of Aalborg until March 22 as prosecutors there determine whether to extradite her to Korea. The decision has greatly diminished chances of the independent counsel here questioning Chung before his mandate ends
Chung is accused of being a chief beneficiary of Park's and Choi's extortion racket and of wrangling illicit admission to the prestigious Ewha Womans University despite missing almost her entire last year in high school.
The court has extended Chung's detention twice already. Chung's lawyer Peter Martin Blinkenberg told reporters he is "disappointed" by the court's decision.
He added that Danish prosecutors lacked evidence to extradite her and claimed she had no hand in her mother's shenanigans.
Blinkenberg pledged to contest her extradition. He added Chung misses her mother and is willing to appear before the independent counsel as a witness, but "not as a suspect."
