Disappointing Year for Samsung Employees is No Celebration

The Samsung Group has decided not to encourage staff to take long holidays toward the end of the year amid disappointing earnings. To cut holiday pay while boosting morale, Samsung used to urge staff use up to 10 days of their vacation time at once around Christmas and the New Year.
But the prolonged hospitalization of group chairman Lee Kun-hee and disappointing performance of major businesses including the smartphone division prompted it not to do so this year. A senior executive said, "Top management feel that at this moment it is necessary to thoroughly review strategies for the next year."
