Disgraced Hanwha Group chairman Kim Seung Youn has begun serving his community service sentence since being convicted on charges of embezzlement and corruption. He has been carrying out the community service under a suspended prison sentence since mid-June.
He started four months after being slapped with a suspended three-year prison sentence, a fine of W5.1 billion or about $5 million US, and 300 hours of community service for embezzlement and corruption.
"Kim has been doing community service eight hours a day, twice a week, at a social welfare center in Seoul," a Hanwha executive said. "His health has improved a little, but it seems he has no plan to go back to work for the time being."
Since March, Kim twice asked the court to delay the start of his community service because of health problems.
