Most of a dozen North Korean women who defected last year have been admitted to South Korean universities, it was revealed Sunday. "Most of them were admitted into universities this year through special programs," a government official said. "They are in their early to mid-20s and are taking courses they feel will help them adapt to life in South Korea," the official added.
The official did not reveal which universities they are attending, due to concerns over their safety.
The women defected in April last year while working as waitresses at a restaurant in China, along with one male manager.
