Unfortunately, news has come to light that one of EXO's managers has been fined 1 million KRW (estimated to be about $936 USD) for harming a fan at Incheon International Airport last August. The Incheon Court ruled in favor of the victim on April 29th for the incident that occurred on August 19th, 2014 at approximately 6:30 PM.
The day of the incident, EXO was returning from a performance in Nanjing, China, having landed in Korea at Incheon International Airport. At the boarding area of the shuttle train platform, one of EXO's managers had hit the back of a fan's head, causing his/her head/face to slam into the camera he/she was holding at the time. The fan's injury resulted in 2 weeks of treatment.
During the court trial, EXO's manager pleaded innocence, stating, "Even though I saw the plaintiff, I did not injure or harm him/her." Despite his plead, the court ruled in favor of the fan, stating, "By piecing the evidence together, it has been determined that the defendant did injure the plaintiff."
As many fans of the Kpop world know, airports become the source of various accidents whenever celebrities arrive or depart. Being one of Korea's top acts currently, EXO causes masses of fans to swarm any airport they visit. However, due to rough and overly-excited fans overcrowding airports in their attempts to get closer to their beloved stars, managers have been known to resort to drastic measures to ensure the safety of their clients. On the other hand, celebrity managers should also ensure the safety of their client's fans as well, many of them being young female students.
We hope that in light of this situation, fans as well as managers will take action to be more considerate of the safety of everyone when celebrities arrive and leave an area.
