On the most recent episode of the hit variety mystery music program, King of Masked Singer, two popular k pop idols were revealed. King of Masked Singer is a South Korean singing competition program presented by Kim Sung-joo, with introductions by voice actor Lee Won Joon. Competitors are given elaborate masks to wear in order to conceal their identity, thus removing factors such as popularity, career and age that could lead to prejudiced voting. In the first round, a pair of competitors sing the same song, while in the second and third rounds they each sing a solo song.
Contestant “Top of the World” was revealed to be no other than After School‘s Raina! Raina performed the song “Forgotten Season” against opponent “Rainbow Romance” who performed Yangpa‘s “A Novice in Love.” Kim Gu Ra commented that “In the end it seems like it will be a close match, the results will vary depending on the feelings of the panel. Personally, I like Yangpa’s songs so I listened very closely to ‘Rainbow Romance.’ She sounds like Younha.”
“Rainbow Romance” claimed victory with nine votes over “Top of the World.” After Raina’s identity was revealed she commented that, “During concerts, [others] are always adjusting to my voice. Because other people’s expectations towards my singing isn’t that high, I wanted to show a stage where I sang to my fullest.” She added a message to her mother, saying that, “I will work hard to become a daughter you can be proud of. Let’s live healthily together for a long time.”
In addition to Raina, singer “Hitmaker Freshman” was unmasked as B.A.P‘s Daehyun! Daehyun progressed to the second round of the show, where he lost to “Amazon Catch Girl” after singing the song “Empty Glass.”
“This is my first time on stage after a year and a half, so my heart was beating and I had butterflies in my stomach. When I was resting at home, I was continuously working on music. My father sang ‘Empty Glass’ and that’s how I ended up picking the song.”
Oh Hye Rin, better known by her stage name Raina, is the main vocalist of South Korean girl group After School. She is also the leader of After School sub-unit Orange Caramel. Raina debuted with the group in November 2009 following the release of the group's second single, "Because of You". She debuted as a solo singer in September 2014 with the single "You End, And Me".
Jung Dae Hyun, known mononymously as Daehyun, is a South Korean singer and dancer. He is best known as the lead vocalist of South Korean K-pop group, B.A.P
