Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder has been sued by the ex-husband of his South Korean fiancee for allegedly having an affair with her and destroying their marriage, court sources said Monday. The ex-husband, whose identity was withheld, has filed for a compensation suit with a Seoul family court, seeking 100 million won (US$936,000) in alimony for "the unbearable mental pain he has caused" and breaking up their marriage.
Schroder, 74, and Kim So-yeon, an interpreter who is 26 years younger than him, announced in January that they plan to get married within this year, which will be his fifth marriage following his split from Doris Schroder Kopf.
Kim's ex-husband claims he agreed to sign the divorce paper because she promised him she would end her relationship with Schroder. But she continued to cheat him and deceived him into believing that she would keep her promise even though she never intended to do so.
He also argues his reputation was tainted when she told a media conference for the marriage announcement with Schroder that she had already been divorced for years. Kim and her ex-husband divorced in November last year.
Kopf claimed in a Facebook post that Schroder and Kim were having an affair and it affected her breakup with Schroder.
