The inaugural International Crown of the LPGA Tour is taking place over four days at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland this week. The biennial event is a global match play competition featuring players from eight different countries.
Spain, Thailand, Taiwan and the U.S. are grouped together, and Australia, Japan, Korea and Sweden are competing together. Each team will be made of the country’s top four players according to world rankings. Park In-bee, currently world No. 3, Ryu So-yeon (No. 9), Choi Na-yeon (No. 18) and Kim In-kyung (No. 23) will represent Korea.
Two players from each country will form teams and complete with others. The top two teams from each group and the winner of the sudden-death playoff between third-place finishers will advance to 10 singles matches this Sunday.
Korea will face Australia on July 24 and Sweden on the following day. A match against Japan, led by former world No.1 Ai Miyazato (now 58th), is scheduled for July 26.
"We'd like to win the inaugural International Crown to give the people of Korea something to be happy about after the Sewol ferry tragedy," Choi said.
