The Gangnam Disctrict in Seoul, Korea has recorded the highest crime rate. Over the past five years, Gangnam has had the most major crimes of any other area in Seoul, which include murder, theft, sex crimes and assault.
The figures come from the latest report provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Gangnam topped the list with 45,109 total crimes reported followed by Songpa (36,328), Yeongdeungpo (33,551) and Gwanak (32,837).
The Gangnam Distrcit is one of the 25 local districts which make up the city of Seoul, South Korea. Gangnam iterally means "South of the (Han) River". As of the 2010 census, Gangnam District had a population of 527,641, making it the 4th most populated district in Seoul. Gangnam District is the third largest district in Seoul, with an area of 39.5 km2 (15.3 sq mi).
This may be part of the reason why the explanation could be linked to population size. The famed district exceeded the 25 others in all the categories except for murder. Yeongdeungpo had the highest count, which could be attributed to its higher poverty levels.
