Hanwha Group chairman Kim Seung-youn will attend the inauguration of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump in Washington on Jan. 20.
He has been invited at the recommendation by Edwin Feulner, a co-founder of the Heritage Foundation and a member of Trump's transition team.
Feulner, who has led the rightwing think tank for about 40 years, has been friends with Kim for two decades. In 2011, the foundation named a conference center at the Heritage Building in Washington after Kim.
Kim inherited a network of personal connections that his late father Kim Jong-hee, the founder of the Hanwha Group who laid the groundwork for Korea's defense industry, built as a board member of the Korean-American Friendship Association.
Hanwha said he will use the event "to contribute to civilian diplomacy by meeting many leaders in American society.
