Choe Ryong-hae, North Korea’s former military politburo chief was abruptly demoted to Workers Party secretary as he was quickly removed from his position as the second-most powerful figure in the Northern army. KCNA news reported that Kim Jong-un described Choe as the ‘party secretary’ during a showing at a youth camp in Wonsan, Kangwon Province.
One source reported Kim Jong-un has become increasingly nervous since the purge of the former eminence Jang Song-taek and as a result, demoted Choe for fear of increasing power and influence. Choe got a much better deal as we was only demoted than being executed. Thoughts and rumors speculate Kim Jong-un’s decision was based on Choe’s father fighting alongside Kim’s father against imperial Japan.
