South Korean pop singer-songwriter Hwang Chi-yeul boasted fat album sales in mainland China, his management revealed on Friday. As of Friday morning, the third day from release, Hwang sold more than 260,000 copies of his first Chinese EP "The Farthest Distance," according to China's two major music downloading and chart providing services Kugou and Kuwo.
By sales revenue, the 31-year-old K-pop star raked in about 221 million won (US&200,000) from the music downloading service on the two Chinese music platforms. "In the official sales data, one of the top buyers purchased over 10,000 copies of his EP for about 68,000 yuan ($10,000)," an official of Kugou was quoted as saying.
The South Korean singer immediately joined stardom through a Chinese singing competition show, which is a Chinese adaptation of popular South Korean reality show "I am a Singer."
Hwang snatched the No. 1 spot in two seasons of the Chinese show, and came into the spotlights of many popular Chinese entertainment shows.
