Imported Automobiles Sales Hit Record in South Korea

Sales of imported cars hit a monthly record last month, breaking the 20,000 mark for the first time. New registrations of imported cars stood at 22,280 units in March, up 33 percent from February and 42 percent from a year earlier.
Imported cars also accounted for a record 17.4 percent of the Korean auto market in the first quarter of this year. The Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDi BlueMotion was the bestselling model in March.
By brand, BMW was the most popular, followed by Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. With four German carmakers dominating the market, European imports accounted for 81 percent of imported car sales here.
