It was previously reported that Hallyu actor Jang Geun Suk was reported to have evaded taxes, which his agency denied was true. According to Korean media outlet Kukmin Daily however, on January 14th Jang Geun Suk reportedly paid an additional fine which exceeded 10 billion KRW (approx. 9 million USD). This brought to attention the fact that he denied involvement when he name was dragged into a tax evasion controversy previously.
The Seoul Regional National Tax Service began a special investigation in June of 2014 for five to six months, and ended sometime in November.
The media outlet on January 14th wrote, "It was confirmed on January 13 that Hallyu movie star Jang Geun Suk paid over 10 billion KRW (~ $9 million USD) in additional fines to the National Tax Service for tax evasion and additional tax."
The report then stated that the amount of tax that was omitted was close to 10 billion KRW (approx. $9 million USD) so it was possible for the assumption that the amount omitted from the income report was at least a few million USD.
Jang Geun Suk's representative denied the report by saying, "The report about his paying an additional fine of 10 billion KRW (~ 9 million USD) is not true. We underwent tax investigation as normal. We do not understand why this controversy came up again."
