A South Korean exchange student is accusing the Catholic Diocese of Allentown in a lawsuit for neglecting to act on a sexual assault complaint heard during confessions by a priest. According to the unnamed student, Richard Kim, a tutor at a dormitory owned by Kim’s parent and run for Pius X High School, forced the student into performing oral sex and made inappropriate sexual contact for over three months in 2010.
The then 14-year-old student told about the abuses to a priest, identified as “Father Tom”. The Catholic Diocese did not contact law enforcement of child protective services. According to Pennsylvania law, priests must contact authorities when there is “reasonable cause” to suspect abuse.
Kim is already serving a five to 10 year prisons sentence after being convicted of 17 counts of indecent assault and one account of corrupting a minor. In addition to the Catholic Diocese, Kim, Kim’s parents, and ACE Academy are named in the lawsuit.
Richard Kim received five to 10 years in state prison for repeatedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. THE MORNING CALL
