Kang Jung-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates was featured as one of the best rookies this year in a CBS Sports article on Tuesday. "Kang has become the front-runner only in the past few weeks, and it's because of playing time. Injuries to Jordy Mercer and Josh Harrison have transformed Kang from a part-timer to Pittsburgh's starting shortstop," it said. "... now he's doing it as an everyday player in a key defensive position."
"In addition to spending time at short and third and stabilizing the left side of the Pittsburgh infield... he leads all rookies when it comes to measured clutch performance this season," said Dayn Perry, a baseball writer for CBS Sports. Kang's batting average is 0.293 with 88 hits in 88 at-bats. He has hit nine homers and has 39 RBIs.
