Kia's new Sedona minivan (Carnival in Korea) has topped a major customer satisfaction survey in the U.S. In the Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study by JD Power and Associates, the Sedona garnered 829 points out of a maximum 1,000 to take the No. 1 spot in the minivan segment, outperforming Honda's Odyssey and the Toyota Siena. It is the first Kia minivan to achieve the feat.
The Sedona's score represents an increase of 62 points over last year. Customers awarded the vehicle especially high marks in the driving performance and design categories. Sales of the Sedona have been brisk in the U.S. market this year, reaching 20,608 units in the first half, up a whopping 476 percent on-year.
The influential U.S. market-research agency conducts the survey to identify which design, performance and other features customers are looking for. The survey is confined to people who have purchased a new car within the past three months, asking them 95 questions in 10 categories.
Meanwhile, Kia's Rio (Pride in Korea) and Soul ranked second in the small-car and compact multipurpose vehicle categories.
