President Park Geun Hye has begun her weeklong tour of Central Asia. In her first stop, she made a state visit to Uzbekistan to meet with their president Islam Karimov. Uzbekistan is Koreas number one trading partner amongst the central Asian countries.
In 2013, Korea and Uzbekistan traded goods totaling some US$2 billion. With a Korean stake of more than $8 billion in developing a gas field and building a chemical complex there, Park and her Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov on Tuesday agreed to expand cooperation in the areas of energy, textiles and transportation.
The next stop on Park's central Asia tour is Samarkand, a city that was at the heart of the Silk Road. She will then travel to Kazakhstan on Wednesday for a three-day state visit.
