Korea lost to Sweden 1-0 in Nizhny Novgorod in its first match of the World Cup in Russia on Monday. Sweden's goal came in the 64th minute, after a video review determined Kim Mio-woo committed a foul in the penalty box. Andreas Granqvist converted the penalty to give Sweden the lead. Korea tried to counterattack until the end, but was unable to turn the game around.
However, goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo made an impressive World Cup debut despite Korea's loss, denying Sweden several scoring opportunities. With the defeat, Korea now faces an even tougher journey ahead, as it will play Mexico in Rostov-on-Don on Saturday. Mexico beat Germany 1-0 in its opening match on Sunday.
