Korea suffered a loss against Iran on Tuesday in the fourth match of the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The game held in the Iranian capital of Tehran ended with a sore of 1-0, with almost no shots on goal. Korea was unable to overturn the curse of never winning a game in Tehran for more than four decades.
It has played seven games including Tuesday's there since September 1974 and posted two draws and five losses. Korea's overall record against Iran is nine wins, seven draws and 13 losses. With two wins, one draw and one loss in the final round, Korea now ranks third in its group after Iran and Uzbekistan. The other countries in the group are China, Qatar and Syria.
Korea will play Uzbekistan in the fifth match in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province on Nov. 15.
Only the top two finishers of each group in the final round of Asian qualifiers will advance to the next round while third-place finishers will have to play a play-off match.
