It has been said that Jun Ji Hyun has been appointed as the honorary ambassador for Korean tourism, and there has been a lot of clamor about it. Due to the controversy surrounding her new endorsement by the Chinese, netizens have openly expressed their unhappiness in regards to the Korea Tourism Organization choosing her as an honorary ambassador, pushing the organization to respond.
With lots of negative press flooding through, the Korea Tourism Organization has stepped up to give a response and explained that since the actress had already been appointed as an honorary ambassador some time ago before the controversy surrounding the actress came to light, they could not make a statement until now.
A representative from the organization spoke to OSEN on August 11th saying, "We started discussing this back in February with Jun Ji Hyun's side and she was confirmed to be the honorary ambassador in early April. We only pushed back the appointment ceremony because of the aftermath of the Sewol passenger ship tragedy."
"There was the Baekdu Mountain controversy, and we do not mean to say that was not a pressing problem. However, it's clear that Jun Ji Hyun's SBS drama 'You Who Came From the Stars' reignited Hallyu."
