Korean dramas starring high-profile celebrities

Korean dramas starring high-profile celebrities will be released in the upcoming months. Here are a few of them:“Scarlet Heart: Ryeo” is a Korean drama adaptation of the Chinese novel “Startling by Each step.” It will be aired on SBS from Aug 29. Contrary to the Chinese drama adaptation of the book in 2011, “Scarlet Heart: Ryeo”airing on SBS will be set in the early stages of Goryeo Kingdom, a Korean kingdom established in 918 by King Taejo, instead of the Chinese Qing Dynasty.
The drama will be about a contemporary woman called Hae-soo (played by singer IU), who goes back to Goryeo dynasty. Actor Lee Joon Ki will play the lead male role as Prince Wang So, the 4th son of King Taejo. Actor Hong Jong Hyun and Baekhyun from boy pop group Exo will play the role of other princes.
Actress Lee Young Ae, who gained international fame for starring in Korean drama “Dae Jang Geum,” will be playing the lead role for “Saimdang, the Herstory.” which will start airing on SBS in October. Lee will play two roles -- Suh Ji-yoon, a college instructor who teaches Korean art history, and Shin In-sun (the woman often referred to as Saimdang), a female painter of early 1500s.
Actor Song Seung-heon will play the role of Lee Gyum, a civil officer who is well-versed in arts. Song is well-known for his lead role in “Autumn in My Heart” (2000).
Actress Jun Ji Hyun, who is well-known for playing the role of Cheon Song Yi in the drama “My Love from the Star”(2014), will play the lead female role. Jun will act alongside actor Lee Min-ho in “The Legend of the Sea.” The drama is based on a story of a mermaid from “Eou Yadam,” a compilation of stories by Yu Mong-in (1559-1623), a Korean scholar of Joseon Dynasty.
