Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been nominated for an award voted by all players. The Major League Baseball Players Association on Wednesday said three finalists were selected from both the National League and American League for this Year's Players Choice Awards.
Ryu was named one of the National League Outstanding Pitchers of the Year, along with Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets and Mike Soroka of the Atlanta Braves. "In his sixth year since coming from Korea, [Ryu] helped the [Dodgers] win the [National League West Division] title, going 14-5 with an MLB-best 2.32 ERA. A 32-year-old left-hander with pinpoint control, Ryu also allowed a league-low 1.2 walks per nine innings," the association said on its website.
Winners will be announced next week.
Additionally, Ryu was also voted by his peers as a finalist of the Comeback Player of the Year.
