The family of a French Korean War veteran who died in March arrived in Korea on Thursday with the ashes of the former soldier. It was his wish to be buried in the land he fought to protect. Musician Lee Seung-chul met the family members at Incheon International Airport. He was friends with Leon Bernard and will attend his funeral at a UN cemetery in Busan on Friday.

The two met here in 2010, when Lee gave the veteran one of his albums. Lee's father was also a war veteran who fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. They kept in touch, visiting each other at their homes. Bernard, who decorated his home with Korean flags, considered Korea his second home
