Lee Seung Gi Enlists in the South Korean Military

Actor-singer Lee Seung-gi enlisted in his mandatory military service Monday upon entering a military training center here. Clad in black trousers and a jumper, the 29-year-old Lee arrived at a rail station near this army training camp for recruits located in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province.
While meeting enthusiastic fans gathered at the training center, Lee expressed special thanks to them for their overwhelming love, saying "I promise to return as a full-fledged real man." Some 200 fans from Korea, China and Japan replied they will wait for him to come back after military service. Some of the fans showed tears in their eyes.
Before the start of his mandatory military service, Lee released a single titled "I Am Joining the Military" at noon on Jan. 21. Through his agency, Lee said the mid-tempo ballad is as much about himself as about those who will also have to complete their military service, as well as their families and friends.
Lee debuted with the chart-topping single "Because You're My Girl" in 2004, and has since dabbled in acting, starring in hit shows like "Brilliant Legacy" and "The King 2 Hearts." He has also been a fixture on variety shows, most notably "Two Days, One Night."
