LG Electronics said Tuesday it will unveil 55- and 65-inch ultra high-definition TVs using so-called quantum dot technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that starts on Jan. 6 next year. Quantum dot TVs boasts better clarity than LCD TVs and are cheaper to make than OLED TVs.
The technology involves the application of a film of tiny light-emitting crystals into regular liquid crystal displays (LCD), boosting picture quality. Lee In-kyu at LG said, "Existing quantum dot TVs use the toxic substance cadmium, but we managed to make do without the substance."
