U.S. alpine skiing star Lindsey Vonn was appointed as an honorary ambassador for the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Pyeongchang at a ceremony in Seoul on Wednesday. She is the first non-Korean individual to be named as an honorary ambassador for the Pyeongchang Olympics.
Other honorary ambassadors named so far include former Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na, retired speed skater Lee Kyou-hyuk and Major League Baseball player Choo Shin-soo. In a press conference held after the ceremony, Vonn said she is honored to promote the Peyongchang Games because she believes in the power of the Olympics to interest children around the world in sports.
She also attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Korea Ski Association and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and met with young Korean skiers at an event in the Lotte World Mall in Jamsil.
