China has been known for their censorship of web materials that are all allowed to be viewed there. Popular global sites such as Youtube or Facebook have restriction so that you cannot log onto the site from China. It has been reported that China has been blocking popular mobile messaging apps like Line and KakaoTalk since earlier this month. A Korean diplomat, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said China informed Korea of the move on Monday but also said services would be restored soon.
Industry sources say the shutdown was a possible attempt by Chinese authorities to block sharing of information in the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. China maintains a firm grip on the Internet. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter remain closed to the general public.
