A man who kicked a pregnant cat which resulted in three stillbirths was arrested for violation of animal protection law on Wednesday. Gyeonggi Siheung Police said the 63-year-old had kicked a cat on July 6 around 6:00 p.m., killing three of the ten kittens it was pregnant with.
The accused told the police that he kicked the cat because it had “suddenly sprung out on the street.” He was not aware that it was in gestation. The cat belonged to the owner of the supermarket in front of which the incident occurred.
The police tracked down the accused via surveillance camera records, 20 days after the incident occurred. According to the police, the accused had been unaware of the social repercussions that followed his kicking, which was why he had not thought of turning himself in.
The cat’s stillbirths had garnered public outrage on social media among animal right activists.
