Memorial Day Ceremony Held in Daejeon

Koreans observed a moment of silence Wednesday to pay tribute to the fallen who sacrificed their lives for the nation. President Moon Jae-in attended a memorial ceremony held at the National Cemetery in Daejeon for the first time in 19 years. While most of those laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Seoul are fallen soldiers and Korean independence fighters, the one in Daejeon is a sanctuary for all patriots including firefighters and civil servants who died in the line of duty.
Moon vowed to continue efforts for recover the remains of those who died during the 1950-1953 Korean War. Troops from 16 countries fought for South Korea under the UN flag.
