On August 12, a 20-year-old person identified as 'A' was sentenced to 25 years in jail by theUlsan District Court, after being found guilty of murdering their younger sibling with a chainsaw.
Back in January, A was accused of feeding their younger sibling with sleeping pills before chain sawing him/her to death. According to the investigators, A is suspected of neglecting his/her younger sibling and verbally abusing him/her prior to the murder.
The Department of Justice, however, explains its reasoning in issuing a light sentence, stating, "In consideration of the victim losing his/her life at such a young age, and the deep impact the event left on the grieving family, we can't punish the family severely." They continued, "Because the accused has a schizophrenic personality--denying the charges one day, turning him/herself in the next, confessing before everyone his/her regret--we have decided to give him/her a light sentence."
