Mercedes-Benz is joining a recent slew of recalls by promising to repair the S63 AMG sedan after a frustrated owner in September smashed his car with a golf club due to constant malfunctions.
The Transport Ministry on Sunday said problems were confirmed in an internal investigation by the manufacturer that found a defect in the electronic control unit. The problem results in the engine turning itself off and the car stalling when decelerating.
The recall will start in early December and will cover 555 of the sedans manufactured from May 13, 2013 to Sept. 18 this year. A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz here said the decision was "voluntarily" as it found the glitch during the quality control process at headquarters and is "unrelated" to the golf club stunt.
