A military court has sentenced an army sergeant to 45 years behind bars for the bullying death of a lower-ranked soldier in April. In its sentencing Thursday, the court said that while it couldn't say the sergeant had intentionally killed the 23-year-old private, he had to be heavily punished, as his actions came close to murder. Five other soldiers who took part in the bullying were also sentenced, with three of them getting between 25 to 30 years in prison.
The private, only identified by his surname Yun, died on April 7 after suffering physical and mental abuse at his unit in Gyeonggi Province.
