Major League Baseball's Minnesota Twins won the bidding rights to slugger Park Byung-ho of the Nexen Heroes, the club unveiled on Monday. The Twins bid US$12.85 million to negotiate with Park and the Heroes accepted.
Park will negotiate with the club for the next 30 days. If both sides agree on a contract, Park will be the second slugger to make a successful transition from the Korea Baseball Organization to the MLB, following his former teammate Kang Jung-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Twins finished 14th among 15 teams in the American league this year. If Park joins the team, he is expected to fill the spot of a much-needed right-handed power bat.
