More Korean Women are Marrying Younger Men

According to a recent report by the Chosun Ilbo, a new marriage trend is showing that more and more women are marrying men younger than them. Korean culture is based a lot of Confucianism, in which the person gender and age are in a preset hierarchy. Thus, the newer trend is something a bit new to Korea.

According to the latest statistics, the bride was older than the groom in 15.5 percent of weddings held in the capital last year, up nearly 7 percentage points from two decades earlier. The average age of a man's first marriage was 32.6 in 2013, up about 4 from 1993, but women had delayed saying "I do" by proportionally longer, or five years, for an average age of 30.4.
