The release date of Korean rom-com movie “My New Sassy Girl,” originally scheduled for May 5, has been postponed, according to its promotion agency Cine de Epi. The scheduled press promotion event on Thursday has also been canceled.
“The decision was made to secure more screens in Korea,” a staff at the agency told the local media.
The Monday report attributed the nationwide release of American action flick “Captain America: Civil War” as the main reason for rescheduling the release date of “My New Sassy Girl.” The prequel of “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has taken 56 percent of Korean screens, which stirred controversy that the American film is “monopolizing” the movie theaters.
“Captain America: Civil War” is poised to open Wednesday in Korea.
According to the agency, the date of release is likely to be in the mid-May, but has been finalized yet. The rom-com starring actor Cha Tae-hyun and Victoria of f(x) is releasing in China on Friday, on 7,500 screens.
