A North Korean delegation will visit the South for an international conference and the draw for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. The organizing committee for the games said North Korea notified the Olympic Council of Asia that it will attend the conference in celebration of the Asiad from Aug. 20 to 22, and the draw on the 21st.
North Korea wants to take part in the games, but the two Koreas in a July 17 meeting failed to reach agreement over the question who should pay for hundreds of North Korean athletes and cheerleaders to take part in the games. There was no attempt from the North to resume the talks.
In June, North Korea told the OCA it would send 150 athletes in disciplines like archery, football and swimming. But in the cross-border talks it upped the numbers to 350 athletes and the same number of cheerleaders.
The draw for group sports like badminton, basketball and football takes place at the Harbor Park Hotel in Incheon. Delegates from participating countries will be given a tour of the sporting venues on Aug. 22.
