North Korea plans to send 108 athletes and officials to the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju. They will compete in eight sports, including gymnastics and athletics. The North has not missed a Universiade in the last decade, so the move was widely expected.
Gwangju organizers expressed support for the torch relay to make a run through the border village of Panmunjom as a gesture of goodwill, ahead of the event's start on July 3.
